Paint Decontamination removes these contaminants using a chemical Iron Remover and a clay bar, leaving your paint silky smooth and ready for polishing or coating. This is a critical step before any paint correction or ceramic coating work.

The process begins with a paint-safe wash to remove loose surface dirt. We then apply an Iron Remover solution to the paint. This chemical reacts with embedded iron particles (from brake dust and industrial pollution), breaking them down and dissolving them. You'll see the liquid turn purple as it dissolves the metal—this is a satisfying visual confirmation that the chemistry is working. We let the iron remover dwell for 5-10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

Next comes the clay bar. This is a soft, sticky putty-like material that we knead and flatten into a workable pad. We mist the paint with a clay lubricant (usually a soapy water solution) to prevent the clay from grabbing and damaging the clear coat. The clay is then gently wiped across the paint surface in overlapping strokes. The clay physically pulls out any remaining contaminants—fallout particles, tree sap, coating overspray—that the iron remover didn't dissolve.

After the clay bar pass, we wipe down the vehicle and inspect the paint. It should now feel perfectly smooth and slick. This decontaminated surface is the ideal foundation for machine polishing or ceramic coating. Customers are often shocked by how rough their paint felt before decontamination and how dramatically different it feels afterward. Decontamination is included in many of our packages (Full Reset, Gloss & Protect) and takes about 1-2 hours depending on vehicle size and contamination level. For vehicles with extremely heavy fallout or industrial exposure, we may recommend a second clay bar pass. This service is an underrated game-changer in paint care and maintenance.
