Decal removal
Removing old bumper stickers, vinyl wraps, or dealership decals is deceptively risky. If done incorrectly with too much heat or the wrong tools, you can peel away the clear coat along with the vinyl, leaving permanent damage. Sticker & Wrap Removal is a careful, methodical process using heat guns, plastic razors, and specialized solvents to safely soften adhesive and remove vinyl without compromising your paint.
We start by applying gentle heat with a heat gun, warming the vinyl and its adhesive to a pliable temperature. Too much heat can bubble the paint or cause the adhesive to fuse harder; too little and the vinyl tears, leaving adhesive residue behind. We work at a moderate, steady heat level, warming a small area at a time. Once warm, we use a plastic razor or soft rubber scraper to gently lift one corner of the vinyl.
As the vinyl lifts, we continue applying heat to the exposed adhesive, keeping it warm and flexible. We pull the vinyl slowly and at a shallow angle, letting it peel away gradually. If the vinyl tears or the adhesive grips too hard, we stop, apply more heat, and try again. Rushing this phase risks clear coat damage. Larger vinyl wraps (full-vehicle wraps) take several hours and require extreme patience at the corners and edges.
Once the vinyl is removed, adhesive residue remains. We use a specialized adhesive remover solvent (often citrus-based, paint-safe) to soften the remaining glue. We wipe it away with soft cloths, reapply solvent as needed, and repeat until the adhesive is completely gone. On some stickers, a light polish follows to remove any adhesive ghost marks (the faint outline left behind).
The final result is a clean paint surface with no damage and no residue. The age and condition of the vinyl affects difficulty—newer vinyl peels more cleanly, while aged vinyl that has been baking in the sun for years becomes brittle and is more prone to tearing. We'll assess the condition and give you realistic expectations before starting the removal process.
